U12 Finals Day

Cusack Park 01-06-2015

The U12 league came to a conclusion in Cusack Park last Monday for St. Josephs Miltown Malbay. Both teams had finals to play. The team competing in the Banner league which is made up of almost all u11 players and a few u10’s came up against Kilmurry Ibrickane and despite taking the lead in the first half the physical strength of our opponents ended up paying dividends and we lost an exciting game by two points. The team competing in the Brian O Reilly League, Division 1, have made great strides from their opening defeat against Ennistymon and have not lost a game since. They have being playing a high tempo brand of attacking football all the way. They faced off against a very strong Corofin team in their final. Despite being seven points behind at one stage our boys mounted a strong comeback and their attacking play yielded a number of scores with unselfish play from the inside forward line creating space and opportunities for their teammates to plunder a number of great goals to win the thrilling encounter. There is a great crop of players involved at this age group and their commitment and effort is never in question which points toward a strong future for Miltown Malbay GAA. Neart TrĂ Iarracht.

Division 5 league 2015

Miltown v Moy 01-06-2015

Miltown 1- 14 Moy 1-4

Lashing rain ,driving wind and low temperatures welcomed both teams and supporters to a sodden Hennessy Park on Monday when Miltown ensured their status in Division 5 for next year with a well deserved victory over Moy .Playing with the aid of the elements in the first half Miltown placed the Moy defense under severe pressure and kept the scoreboard ticking over with nine points and a cracking goal from Des Molohan. Moy's best chance of a goal in the first half was superbly saved by Paul Tubridy and a solitary point was all they could muster for the 30 mins.

Conditions improved slightly as the game wore on but after all the rain the underfoot conditions were proving tricky. The second half was a tight affair with Moy having more of the possession but coming up against a resolute Miltown defense they were unable to make much of an impact on the score.Miltown themselves played very well against the wind and despite Moy scoring 1-3 in the second Miltown were able to tack on 5 points to run out winners on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-4

Miltown really upped their performance in the second half against the wind and put O'Currys on the backfoot from the off. Miltowns defence was strong and disciplined with some excellent tackles and blocks to prevent the visitors getting any foothold in the game while the midfield and forwards created numerous chances which resulted in 2-7 being scored for the 30 mins.Goals from Kieran Malone and Brian Curtin ensured Miltown had their biggest win of the season to date and leaves them in contention for a semi final place with one round of games to go.

Miltown v The Banner

Miltown 1-6  The Banner 1-6

Miltown U16's were cruelly denied a deserved victory in the U16 Shield final in Cusack Park on Sunday evening when a late goal from The Banner ensured that the teams would have to meet again to decide this years title.

The Banner increased the pressure on Miltown in the final minutes and were rewarded when a last minute goal finally broke the Miltown rearguard action and meant the sides will have to meet again in Kilfenora on Friday 22nd at 7pm.

Miltown 0-8 KIB 0-8

The second half produced a much improved performance from the home side when playing into the breeze with the half back line of Graham Kelly,Gordon Kelly and Eoin O'Brien particularly prominent.Four points from the boot of Eoin Cleary, (two from play) ensured that there was little between the sides coming into the closing ten minutes and a point from Micheal Malone ensured both sides left Hennessy Park with honours intact.

Draws were the order of the weekend between Miltown and KIB as both sides played out an other hard fought draw in the Division 5 clash played in Quilty on Saturday. That game finished on a scoreline of Miltown 0-8 KIB 1-5 which meant for the second year in a row there was nothing to separate the sides.
